After a LONG Hiatus, we decided that we had to talk about the two mostly anticipated movies this year (not including the dark knight and apparently sex and the city), Ironman and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. We have a huge panelist this episode since we podcast at East Los Angeles College's Auditorium with finest of ELAC's Theatre students. Enjoy!

Again, when we heard 30 days of night, we assumed it was a prequel to 40 days and 40 nights. Funny because Josh Hartnett stars in both... a coincidence? But we should have let them be Things we lost in the fire. Or things that are Into the Wild. Well thats enough of are stupid PUNS... ENJOY THE SHOW!

Movie Menu: The Heartbreak Kid, Resident Evil: Extinction, & Across the Universe

We had first assumed The Heartbreak Kid was a sequel to 2001's Heartbreakers with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver, but to our surprise it was another Farrelly Brothers movie with Ben Stiller and some girl who looks like Cameron Diaz. Though the movie could have used some Zombies in it like Resident Evil or even a musical number like across the universe. Either way when you combine rat feces and mummified beer you can never go wrong. Just listen and take our word for it

Stardust is a movie about an ugly Michelle Pfieffer and a gay Robert De Niro...interesting... because Rush Hour 3 is about an ugly Jackie Chan and a gay Chris Tucker. Aren't movies original anymore? At least we have Jane Austin to go to for originality, though if you're a guy and saw it, you're probably ugly or gay. Though theres nothing ugly or gay in the Bourne Ultimatum.....? Unless you count MATT DAMOOOOOON!!!! So yeah listen in to our Ugliest and Gayest episode to date (nah we've gone gayer lol)

Moviiiiieeeeee Menuuuuuu!!!! (insert $275,000 Danny
Elfman theme song). Podcasting live from Springfield,
CA- Movie Menu proves we're as American as Apple
Pie... unlike those Korean animators working on The
Simpsons. Hey Korea! We're not REALLY yellow! You know
what else is American? Underage kids trying to buy
beer and nail hot underage chicks. BANG BANG! That's
why we wore our favorite American underwear and
watched Superbad. But you have to excuse us, we might
have been in Zombie mode.

For the low low low price of $19.95, you can buy a tub of popcorn and one admission to see Shrek the Third! Now in amazing Cinescope Panavision Dolby-Digital mono sound. Now who ever said Movie Menu doesn't pull out all the stops to help fight the disease of mediocrity in theaters? I wonder how many revisions on Wikipedia will the future hold for us? How we nearly destroyed the talents of Jeff Goldblum and MTV VJ Simon Rex; corn was really having the Best Year Ever!; Rosie O'Donnell was a mutant cyborg from the future; and how little we did to anticipate that the lack of voter turnout in 2008 would result in the election of Janet Reno as our new President. ::shivers:: So America!!!

Four turtles and a giant rat…and you thought your family was strange. Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles returned to the big screen this week and proved a ninja’s
killing ability does have a down-side: every person they’ve killed is one
less person watching a ninja movie. How stoned was TMNT creator Peter Laird when
he thought of this idea, and can you imagine what his bosses might have thought,
“so not only do you wanting ninja turtles but you want to name them after
famous Renaissance artist?” Word of advice: mixing your prescribed medication
with your “medication”, could make you the richest stoner to ever
step foot on your own private island. “Pass the cheetos!”

Production Blog: TMNT

Pre-Production
So this weekend there were a few contenders for the pick of the week. There
was Reign Over Me, Shooter, and The Hills Has Eyes 2.
However, when we heard Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was being released, we were
gitty like little school girls. We grew up watching TMNT, and it was my first
look into the world of the ninjaâs and samuraiâs as a kid. This
being a CGI continuation of the live action movies, it seemed to be an interesting
  addition to the collection.

Day of Podcast
Iâve been working on a project, so time was an issue when recording the
show. Mike and I saw it the morning of, while John saw it the night before.
We only had 3 hours to record the banter, which seemed impossible because usually
our days of recording take up an entire day. Though, Mike took it upon himself
to work on the intro on his own, so we can just focus on the banter. This was
the best idea because we finished recording within an hour. Another great news
was that Mike got the new mixer to work, so we were able to record our show
  with better equipment.

Post Production
Mike and John edited the show this week. John edited the banter down, while
Mike worked on the intro. The idea for the intro came from Mike, and basically
it is a theme song that goes perfect for this episode. You just might be surprised,
but if you love the original show, then youâll love this theme too.

Hey it’s the first week of Spring! What that means for you: time to let
some light into your house/room, get some cleaning done, and start working on
that physic cause summer is just around the corner and you don’t want to
be that kid with the over-sized Mickey Mouse floating device around your waist.
“I’m sorry sir, but the AMC theaters of America prohibit any assortment
of floaties…” At what age does the floaties around the arms seem lame?
A little kid can get-away with it, but can a young adult with a fear of the water
since watching Species. Not that I would know that individual fearing a sexy Russian
femme-bot is going to force herself onto me so she could produce an offspring.
No…clue…ummm…who that…(clears throat) would be. How about
we get back to Movie Menu: Entertainment News

March 16-22nd Edition
• March of the Germans: United Artist Entertainment
and Bryan Singer (Usual Suspects, X-Men 1+2, Superman Returns) are
scheduled to work on an untitled thriller based on an attempt to assassinate
Adolf Hitler. Who is to star you ask? Tom Cruise. The same man who
purchased the film for United Artist. Anyone else get the vibe Tom Cruise is
trying to give the finger to everyone and show he doesn’t need Mission
Impossible? I just can’t wait to see who will play Adolf Hitler because
I have strange suspicion it is going to be Katie Holmes…you know, because
  she has RANGE. (Yahoo!)
• The Green Hornet: Columbia Pictures has picked
up where Kevin Smith has left off and acquired the rights to make the long-awaited
Green Hornet film. The Green Hornet was a Newspaper Publisher by day, and masked
hero at night, so a totally-unique premise of a superhero living a life in the
media and saving the world at night. (Monsters
  & Critics)
• Harry will not Pot-Her : Emma Watson is pretty
much done playing Hermione and has rejected an offer to continue her role in
the Harry Potter series, leaving a void in her character for the last 2 installments.
“Hurry! Someone get Dakota Fanning on the phone!” Citing her desire
to branch out and not be type-casted, the young…(drool)…hottie…will..now…
I’m sorry! All this talk of Emma Watson has me all hot and bothered. I
need to use the restroom!! (Cinema
  Blend)
• Cate Blanchett : Harrison Ford now has a love
interest in Cate Blanchett for Indiana Jones IV: The Curse of Arthritis.
Wait, apparently that titled has not been confirmed, but Movie Menu is giving
you the scoop! Just don’t tell anyone because I don’t need to see
George Lucas in court…again. The David Koepp script for Indiana Jones
IV has been closely guarded so no word on what the relationship will stem from,
but I imagine a special blue pill that starts with the letter V and ends with:
iagra will play a major role in the film. (The

Frank Miller must sleep with silk sheets on a gold bed-frame because there is
no one in Hollywood that doesn’t want to participate in one of his movie.
But how many people are willing to sleep with the comic book king? Whatever it
takes, you can bet on seeing Movie Menu with their heads chopped off while battling
Crispin Glover’s chainsaw. Maybe Frank Miller can write a comic book based
on Movie Menu saving the world from a giant lizard with octopus legs named Ketchup…or

Production Blog: 300

Planning the Podcast

After watching horrible and so so films, we decided to treat ourselves to watching
Frank Miller’s 300. We knew this was the movie to podcast because the
style it was made and the creativity of the artwork that went into making this
movie looked phenomenal. Also, with the success of Sin City, another Frank Miller
film adaptation, the anticipation of this film stretched across the world. So
of course Movie Menu was there!

Day of Podcast

After a few scheduling problems, (mainly on my part because of work), we finally
met up to record the show. However, discussion was created over the fact that
one of us didn’t particularly enjoy the movie. The name will remain nameless
until you listen to the show; however, it raised some questions. So we recorded
the banter, of course checking out the levels prior to the recording, that way
everyone is evened out and not fighting to talk over one another, even though
it still happens. However, the first recording wasn’t enough. It seemed
like something was missing, so we ended up scraping the first recording and
doing another one. Then we figured what was missing, the gross comedic jokes
that Movie Menu is famous for!

Post Production

So we had three ideas for an intro. However, we couldn’t think of a correct
way to execute them. The first idea was of someone yelling “PODCASTERS!
TONIGHT, WE DINE IN HELL!” And then cuts to us actually eating in hell
with the Devil. However, so many ideas were tossed and different variations
were created, that we shifted ideas to us actually dining either at norms, to
heaven, then us just burning. Then someone, I say someone because I can’t
remember who it was, and I know it was me, came up with doing a Richard Simmons
Parody of Sparta Work out Video, but didn’t translate too well with audio.
So we scrapped the whole Intro Idea. Figured the show was strong enough that
it really didn’t need one, since the first 5 minutes aren’t really
about the movie, we thought that it would speak for itself. SO ENJOY!
cannot get any pussy now. Good job Borat! 1 lawsuit downâlike 4 or 5 more
  to go! (Yahoo!)
â Wonder Woman: Josh Whedon (Buffy: The Vampire
Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity) was recently kicked off the project because
Warner Bros. found a better script and are close to finally hiring an actress.
Looks like Eva Green, the latest Bond girl, will receive the honors of portraying
Wonder Woman. No truth to my rumors that Josh Whedon wanted Sarah Michelle Gellar
to play Wonder Woman so sheâd have to wear tight little suits and give
us some camel-toe actionâwhat? You wouldnât go to see that? Come
  onâ(The
  Movie Blog)
â Indiana Jones Jr.: the word involving the
script of Indiana Jones IV has an Indy Junior to protect now, and Steven Spielberg
has been talking up a storm about actor Shia LaBeaouf. Canât say I love
the idea, but Shia LaBeaouf is a great new talent who will get more recognition
with his role in Transformers and his brilliant performance in A Guide to Recognizing
Your Saints. As long as Shia remembers Macaulay Culkin was once a rising star.
  Beware. (Cinema
  Blend)

Production Blog: The Razzie Awards

Planning the Podcast

You might think that since this is our 27th episode, that the 27th Annual Razzie
Awards would be the perfect choice, right? Well that was just a coincidence.
We figure the Oscars get enough buzz, lets dedicate a show to something we know
very well, worst movies of 2006. Plus we didn’t want to review Norbit,
  or at least I didn’t.

Day of Podcast

This format would be different because there are five movies nominated for
WORST FILM OF 2006. Luckily we had previously seen two of them (Lady in the
Water and Wickerman), so we didn’t have to watch them over again. However,
that left THREE movies (Bloodrayne, Little Man, and Basic Instinct 2), that
we’d have to watch before the show. Luckily they were all on DVD so we
ended up renting them on our own and watching them, except Basic Instinct 2,
which we saw at John’s place, (very awkward, we explain it during the
show). We recorded the show, and afterwards created the intro for the show,
which is the norm that we do for every episode. However, we also did the music
that day. Since we had limited use of instruments, we took advantage of the
recording and used what we had, which wasn’t much.

Post Production

It would be Movie Menu if we hadn’t recorded excess amount of audio footage
that would make my editing that much difficult. Thanks guys, jerks. The episode
of done fairly early, however of course the minor things needed to be added,
like effects, lowering/higher volumes, and cleaning up a few things. Luckily
we were able to shoot this episode out since it was the first episode of the
  newest season. Hope you enjoy!

Production Blog: The Fountain

Planning the Podcast
Well, we couldn’t decide on which movie to review:. go for the easy film, Déjà vu, or the comedy, Tenacious D, or the complex film, The Fountain. Since this was our final Podcast of the season, we decided to do it our way and review The Fountain. With Thanksgiving weekend being the same weekend that The Fountain was released, it would make for an interesting show.

Day of Podcast
So I picked up Mike so to watch the film. We didn’t have any interruptions this time, unlike Casino Royale. After we finished, we headed over to John’s place to start recording the show. I had bought a new laptop, so I was excited to use it for the final show. However, Z installed new software and it was kind of difficult to figure it out. I also think my laptop wasn't handling the new software the best either, which is probably why the sound quality is different than the past episodes. There was still a show to do and we were going to deliver! (even if it meant producing bad quality sound.)

Post Production
Well, this was the final show to edit for the season; of course, it would be the hardest, because while recording, for whatever reason the sound cut in certain parts of the show. So I had to go in and fix each one manually. It was not an easy edit for Mike either, but we always manage and pull through. Hopefully you guys enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. I’d just like to thank everyone who helped support the show. I really appreciate all that you have done, thanks again and we’ll be back next year in January with better shows. Tune in!

Production Blog: Casino Royale

Planning the Podcast

Casino Royale seemed like the perfect popcorn movie flick to watch one episode before our season finale. Yes, Podcasts can have seasons too! So much planning was made to make this show a success. We had a comfortable format in the past episodes, though in this one, we slightly drifted away from the norm. As a podcast, weâre still learning the ropes and finding our niche so we continue to evolve. Hopefully you evolve with usâwait that didnât sound rightâheh

Day of Podcast

Well, things got difficult so close to the holiday season. We ended up watching the movie the day before recording. The next day, I picked up Mike and headed over to Johns to record the show. However, Christina, Vasthy, and Carlos were there so catching up was in order. After yapping away, we got down to business. We recorded the banter which didnât last too long. Then ideas for the intro came into play. We decided to spoof an event that happened to Mike and me when we went to watch Casino Royale.

Post Production

Well two banters were recorded so I used one as the main banter but used snippets of the other to combine as a whole banter. Mike created the intro and we had a show. Only problem there was a glitch that didnât allow us to upload the show. Though one day late is better than never so enjoy the show!

A life of a secret agent is tough, having sex with hot women, driving the fanciest cars, and having the coolest gadgetsâwait a minuteâ I WANT TO BE BOND! Which makes me ponder, what would happen if Bond started up his own class to help guys become more suave? James could do it and still fight terrorism. James Bond invented the word metrosexual, so next Bond film better have Right Said Freds, âIâm Too Sexy,â? as the theme.

Preview Review: Who Killed the Electric Car?

Reviewed by- John Hang

Remember as a child, watching Saturday morning cartoons, in your P Js, cross-legged, holding onto your blanket and your pet chicken Bangkok…okay, that last part might have just been me…but remember those Power Wheels commercials? Well, several years ago engineers made a grown-up version of them and now they are all gone. Director Chris Paine gives you the tragic story of the electric car.
Who Killed the Electric car? Is a documentary that investigates the birth and death of the electric car, as well as the role of renewable energy and sustainable living in the future.

STORY: we are starting to see a lot more environmental documentaries circulate, a sign there is a strong interest and concern of what is happening. The story of the electric car is a tragic one, the reality of our government, car manufactures, oil companies, and consumers failing to support a vehicle with zero omission of gases. We all saw those re-chargeable stations at convenient stores, yet there was not a strong enough demand at the time to convince manufactures, supposedly, and now we’re experiencing the retribution of global warming. This documentary shines light on exactly how the electric car was killed and why all electric cars were destroyed.

STYLE: clever graphics and animation has become a staple in documentaries, thereby causing their budgets to sky-rocket. There is also a good amount of footage depicting the environment and what our factories are doing to our o-zone. The film builds to this great scene of a news piece by PBS that visited a recycling center and the reporter notices an entire lot of brand new vehicles in the lot. Well the recycling manager admits to his shock as well, for these were brand new electric cars that were tagged to be destroyed immediately. The two puzzled looks from the men were enough to make me understand what kind of travesty this image was.

SUMMARY: is this film biased? Yes. Are both sides properly represented? Probably not. But consider this documentary more as a debate environmentalist are making to stake their claim your government does not care enough about our health. The electric car provided a vision of the future, the equivalent in my mind to a Lego car, but it wasn’t given a chance to succeed. Hybrids and Hydrogen gas stations might be the future, but electric cars was an alternative to where oil was not dependent, and now it is just part of car history.

Will Farrell plays an IRS agent who hears a voice in his head who narrates his life, which in turn, reveals he will die soon. Hey, if I worked for the IRS I’d want to die soon too. This movie proves that its okay to listen to the voices in your head, so Tom Cruise is right, who needs Medications to solve problems when you have someone dictating your life with a better vocabulary? We should all become scientologists just so we too could deny western medicine and jump on couches and blame it on the voices in our heads! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Production Blog: Stranger than Fiction

Planning the Podcast
There was much anticipation for the film Stranger Than Fiction with us Movie Menu guys. Will Farrell playing a serious role? We had to be there! So much planning was created to not miss this movie. However, there were some twists and turn when we decided to have Russhelle on the show again. So all that planning went out the window. Luckily for us, we have no lives anymore, so we were able to change some things around so Russhelle could be a part of our show. So we actually saw the movie the day before the recording of the Podcast.

Day of Podcast
Since we saw the movie the day before, we decided to Podcast at night. Which was perfect for me because I was able to watch Volver, a Spanish film starring Penelope Cruz, which I will do a written review on soon. So after getting lost, Mike and I found Russhelle’s house and got to work. We went through the banter once, though the intro look longer than expected because we had some script issues…. Okay I couldn’t get it right. Though it was late, and our energy was low, we still were determined to provide an entertaining show, no matter what the cost.

Post Production
Things seemed to be going better for Mike’s computer since we used it to record the show, we could only hope that it would work while recording the music for the intro. The banter took a little longer to edit than expected but that’s Movie Menu for you. However of course we are successful at spitting out another episode that you’ll enjoy and wonder, what would I do without MOVIE MENU?!

Preview Review: Shadowboxer

Shadowboxer – reviewed by John Hang

Cuba Gooding Jr. sure does like to box. He once was an underground fighter in Gladiator…before there is any confusion, I’m not talking about the Russell Crowe film. Although Russell would have been great in both. Hey! You wanna fight!
Rose, a female assassin, decides to finish her career with one final job. But the job isn’t completed, so it’s up to Rose and Mikey now to find a way out.

STORY: Helen Mirren a British actress better known for her recent portrayal of Queen Elizabeth, plays Rose the terminally ill assassin who wants out now. Cuba Gooding Jr. is the boyfriend Mikey, an assassin who trains like a boxer, but fights no one. Like a Shadowboxer. How clever. Well the two assassins couldn’t bring themselves to kill a pregnant woman, so the trio flee with the baby and go into hiding. The story focuses heavily on Mikey and how he got into the profession. Cuba Gooding Jr. shows how bad you can make a bad movie worst with bad acting. Clearly Cuba proves his best role was a retarded water boy in Radio. Director Lee Daniels used so many flashbacks to tell Mikey’s story, I easily guessed the ending and everything in between. Although, they do remind us Stephen Dorff is still alive and acting, giving him a chance to play the mad boss man chasing Mikey and Rose.

STYLE: Think of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, starring Angelina Jolie- Brad Pitt okay, now add a hip hop/ gangster rap soundtrack, and have it romantically star a British actress pushing 60 and a black actor who can also be seen in Snow Dogs. Every shot is bland, no aesthetics worth mentioning, and a lot of shots of Cuba Gooding’s ass. One scene that was memorable was the wife’s infatuation with Cuba Gooding’s ass while he was showering, and she decides to start masturbating. Well they changed the shutter speed so on film her hand trails in slow motion. Masturbation in slow motion. Yup. That was new, found it pretty funny, but I give director Lee Daniels credit for trying something different.

SUMMARY: I was pretty disappointed in my rental choice, because I chose Shadowboxer over Totally Awesome, a new film starring Chris Kattan. Let me repeat that, I was disappointed in myself for not renting a Chris Kattan film. Just a bad-bad-bad film. Supposedly LL Cool J and Mos Def rejected the film, shouldn’t that be a sign to someone to not make this film? So go watch it! Movie Menu pick of the month! Kidding. Your hour and a half is better spent thinking of joining Flavor Flav’s posse. Chicken and waffles for everyone!

Coming Soon: November 10, 2006

<img src="http://media.libsyn.com/media/moviemenu/stranger.jpg" alt="Babel"width="260" height="336" border="1" style="float:right; padding-left: 2 px;" />This is a written segment that will display the new upcoming movies for the week. This coming soon section is for the week of November 10th, 2006. The first movie is:

Stranger Than Fiction- Emma Thompson and Will Farrell star in this film about an English writer narrating the life of an IRS Agent only to find out that he will be killed off unless he finds out who is narrating his life. –Movie Menu pick of the Week-

An interesting fact about Will Farrell is that he is a graduate of the University of Southern California; Will Ferrell became interested in performing while a student at University High School in Irvine, California, where he made his school's daily morning announcements over the public address system in disguised voices. He started as a member of the Los Angeles comedy/improvisation group The Groundlings. In 1995 he became a feature cast member at "Saturday Night Live" during the show's rapid re-casting. He was declared quite possibly the worst cast member ever during his first season. However, his talents of impersonations and range of characters shot him forward to making him arguably the greatest "Saturday Night Live" cast member ever. During his seven year run he is one of the few cast members to ever be nominated for an Emmy for a performance and played George W. Bush during the 2000 elections. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002071/bio)

Climates- This Turkish film deals with a professor and a young television producer whose relationship has more ups and downs than a roller coaster.

Come Early Morning- Ashley Judd plays this promiscuous woman looking for love in all the wrong places, but changes her way after she finally finds someone she likes.

Copying Beethoven- An aspiring composer has a chance to work beside Ludwig van Beethoven.

F*CK- This humorous documentary tackles the mystery, “where did the word FUCK come from?” It has interviews from celebrities, political figures, and other commentators on their thoughts and ideas on the F Word.

FUR: An imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus- Nicole Kidman plays Diane Arbus, an influential photographer in the 1950s, whose unlikely romance started her vision.

A Good Year- Russell Crowe plays this money hungry man who inherits this little vineyard from his uncle after passing away. Now Russell’s character struggles if he should sell the vineyard and move on with his life, or keep the only thing that he really cares about.

Harsh Time- This movie follows Christian Bale employed by the DEA to work in Columbia. His friend and him stroll Los Angeles only to turn against each other.

The Return- Sarah Michelle Gellar plays this woman who feels like she is losing her mind. She gets these visions of murder and suspects that someone is after her.

Production Blog: Borat

Planning the Podcast
So when word came out that Sacha Baron Cohen was making his famous character, Borat, into a feature film, Movie Menu knew they would have to be there to review it. Much anticipation of this film has been hyped because of the mockumentary styled film playing hoax to people all over America. Something Movie Menu does every week… okay maybe not. So with the original gangstas, Mike, John, and I (Danny) would reunite to create the best review around.

Day of Podcast
After a month or so of having special guests on, the original panelist were back, with a vengeance. Much anticipation for this show had fallen on us because this was our reunion show, so anything could happen. We sort of looked around the room and for once, knew what Borat felt when making his film. The pressure of on, however, like always, Movie Menu rises to the occasion (in more ways than one). After the recording of the show, a new intro was designed on a parody of a famous wrestlers anthem. After, we had a production meeting that last three hours. We discussed, ratings, advertising, domain, basically our future as a company in entertainment and let me tell ya, WE’RE HERE TO STAY! Oh yeah and then the night turned kinda gay after a group hug was given to Z for his birthday… I blame John.

Post Production
Well difficulties arose with Mikes computer not lending a helping hand with the editing, luckily for us my computer was still running okay. Made things difficult however, would be Movie Menu if there weren’t any obstacles involved. So the banter was trimmed and the intro was added and a new theme was created. SO SIT BACK and relax and enjoy the show!

Planning the Podcast
Originally we were going to review Saw 3 since we were going to have a Halloween episode. However, with reviewing The Grudge 2 recently, we thought that we had enough horror movies for the year. So Babel was a great choice to review this week with special guest Russhelle back on board. The story of different languages and races was just the niche Movie Menu needed to review because Babel is based on our real lives. Okay, maybe not based, but definitely inspired. Plus Movie Menu was ready to babble about Babel (sorry but pun was intended).

Day of Podcast
Well I actually wasn’t there during the production. I was helping out with another show, but I did get a first listen of the show raw and uncut and pretty sure this is how the production was done.

John: Oh yeah, we have to Podcast today, don’t we?
Mike: Yeah, um, what movie are we watching again?
John: I don’t know, let me call Dan.

Phone Rings
John: Dan, what movie are we suppose to watch today?
Dan: John, I’m busy helping running a show, I told you its BABEL with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
John: Oh, okay, what time does the movie start again?
Dan: 4:05 p.m.
John: Oh, what movie is it again?
Dan: Dammit John, let me talk to Mike.
Mike: Hello?
Dan: Mike? The movie is Babel and starts at 4:05p.m. make sure to watch it.
Mike: Oh ok, and its Babel?
Dan: Yes, Babel, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
Mike: Ohhhhh… Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett? Is that out already? Are you sure?
Dan: Yes! I gotta go, Sorry, but good luck with the show!

Hangs up
Mike: Dan? You there? I think we lost reception.
John: Oh really? Did he tell you what movie?
Mike: Yeah, but not sure if it’s out yet.
John: Oh well, lets go get Russhelle, she’ll know.
Mike: Yeah, Russhelle knows everything.
John: Everything about nothing.
True Story, however the names of the actors were changed to protect them in real life. Though I did help edit it, and they record ridiculously amount of audio footage.

Post Production
So editing this show was going to be difficult because originally the show is suppose to be 20 minutes altogether. That includes the Intro, theme song, Banter, and Outro Theme Song. However they recorded 40 minutes of Banter a lone. So my true skills as an editor came into play, and hopefully you guys enjoy it. I also altered some of the things that were said to make the panelist make more sense, something not easy to do, but someone has to do it. ENJOY!

Coming Soon: October 23-27, 2006

<img src="http://media.libsyn.com/media/moviemenu/poster1.jpg" alt="Babel"width="300" height="395" border="1" style="float:right; padding-left: 2 px;" />This is a written segment that will display the new upcoming movies for the week. This coming soon section is for the week of October 27th, 2006. The first movie of this week is:

Babel- A couple on vacation (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) goes to hell when the wife gets shot by accident by two teens from afar, which triggers a life changing event for four different people in three different continents. -Movie Menu’s Pick of the Week-

The history of Babel is fascinating. According to the narrative in Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens. Because the hearts of men were said to be inherently evil and disobedient, they were striving to make a name for themselves instead of worshipping the God who created them. Because of this open defiance, God stopped their efforts by confusing languages so that no one could understand each other. As a result, they could no longer communicate and the work was halted. The builders were then scattered to different parts of Earth. This story is used to explain the existence of many different languages and races. The tower of Babel never got close to being finished. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel)

Catch a Fire- Terrorism is the main focus of this dramatic portrayal of a man in South Africa during apartheid to battle against a regime.

Death of a President- This mockumentary has a promising premise of following an investigating while using actual video with fictional video of the assassination attempts on George W. Bush.

Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss- In this child adapted story, the roles of Romeo and Juliet are portrayed as Seals. This is not a joke, I’m serious.

Saw III- Perfect for Halloween, the third installment of the terror of Jigsaw brings in his new apprentice to terrorize more victims in this gruesome movie.

Shut up and Sing- This documentary follows the aftermath and backlash of Natalie Mains of the Dixie Chicks after her negative comment about George W. Bush.

Production Blog: The Prestige

Planning the Podcast
So when The Prestige came out, my friend Stephen was interested in being a special guest. And with such success from our previous special guests, we figured why not take a chance on an unknown kid. So Stephen came onboard to review the movie with us. However with John not having a computer, things got more interesting on place where to record. So we made arrangements to go back to the place where we first started, and record at Z’s place.

Day of Podcast
So after the movie we headed over to start recording. Of course we had to initiate Stephen into Movie Menu so we shaved his head and made him wear a chicken suit through out the Podcast. Okay so that didn’t happen, but now we know what to do when our next “special” guest comes on… yes… (evil laugh). So of course we record the Banter before anything and we have some technical difficulties. Funny thing is that this time we actually had a sound guy while the past episodes we didn’t. Ironic, we know.

So after a long discussion about nothing, we decide on creating the intro that would be fitting for this show. So after we recorded all was good and rest was needed.

Post Production
After a long rest, work was needed to be done. We recorded A LOT of material and had too take out at least half of it, so this was going to be more difficult than expected. Of course the impossible became possible and we edited the show the way we saw fit. Added some cool effects and tried covering our mistakes (which we didn’t do a good job on heh). Hopefully this show is enjoyed by many because this took a lot more work than anticipated.

Matt Damon is impotentâ on that note, sometimes art imitates life.
Movie Menu Episode #17: Orgazmo

Before the fame of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker made 2 full length movies, and Movie Menu is proud to present to you a review of one of them: Orgazmo. This movie tells the story of a Mormon moving to Los Angeles to spread the word of Jesus and circumstances force him to work in the porn industry. The world is a better place because of people like Matt Stone and Trey Parker who are brave enough to push the boundaries and maybe with enough sucking up, they would consider taking our auditions seriously! Our greatest dreams of becoming The Fudge-Packer dancers have not been realized, but we’re still holding hope their next movies will need us. So sit back, grab some tissues, recharge your “pencil”, shake it like a salt shaka, and go get you some BOOM BOOM in the night. Or call us at (800) GO PENIS, P.O.
PREVIEW REVIEW: This Film is not Yet Rated

This Film is Not Yet Rated- reviewed by John Hang

THIS WEBSITE IS RATED NC-17 for strong sexual content and the use of a spatula to harm a kangaroo. Who the hell gave us this rating? And where the hell did we find a kangaroo? Well the new documentary by director Kirby Dick tackles this issue.
Kirby Dick hires a private investigator and interviews many artists who have been censored by a review board that has remained anonymous…until now.

STORY: not believable at all! Complete farce! Actually with clever editing you make a documentary completely unbelievable. Actually with all the mockumentaries it has harder to distinguish the lines between reality and fiction. With this documentary, there is a blend of interviews with acclaimed directors and other commentators on the M.P.A.A.’s board or review, and interwoven is footage of Kirby Dick and a team of private investigators following cars coming out of the MPAA building. The premise lies in the fact no one knows who determines the ratings for films, which leads to no accountability for the harsh results that are laid sometimes. We are led to believe the board is occupied by regular parents looking out for the well-fair of our youth, but we learn differently.
STYLE: shot on DV cameras with plenty of stock footage of movies that have been censored, it is almost hard to believe too many shots were designed for this film. Developing a beautiful image is not even discussed for a documentary mainly because the focus of a documentary is to tell a story, hence the reason for the recent success of many documentaries. There were some cool animated and flash graphics that have become a mainstay in docu-films like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Supersize Me. The film runs at 97 mins because of the many interviews conducted and there is probably only about 30 minutes with Kirby and his private investigators.
SUMMARY: mehhh. When members of the review board are revealed, there wasn’t a wave of shock that wiped over me or the audience. Maybe with the build-up I was expecting the review board to be occupied by large stalks of celery or Sinbad, but it was mainly suburban parents which came to no surprise to me. I thought the bigger story was the members of the appeals committee which makes perfect sense to me and the funniest parts of the movie consisted of dramatizations with Kirby Dick and the MPAA as he submits his film for a rating to the committee. That must have been an awkward moment for board members as they realized a spy has been following them for months. The main objective is to prove how sex receives a harder sentencing than violence, which is the opposite with other review boards, and after watching this film, all I really wanted to do was watch all these films that received NC-17 ratings and maybe watching some deleted scenes for others. Viva la France!

Movie Menu Episode #16: Jackass 2

Jackass 2 proves once again that with alcohol, there are no boundaries- the sky is the limit, and they came awfully close to reaching the sky this time. Johnny Knoxville reunites the band of misfits every young male between the ages of 10-65 idolizes and up the ante with a bigger budget and enough stunts to make you wonder what kind of beer are these junkies drinking. No Podcast will be justice to the amount of entertainment the film brings, but we tried, and something happen to this week’s podcast that we promise was not our intention. I think we still couldn’t get the image of Spike Jonze as the naked Grandma out of heads, or maybe after watching Jackass 2 nothing we can say or do seems outrageous enough. But never fear, Movie Menu has never been afraid of pushing the envelope. So once those kung fu mountain lions arrive in the mail, we can promise you all hell will break loose.

PREVIEW REVIEW: Scoop

Scoop – reviewed by John Hang

Woody Allen discovers life out of his New York City cesspool and rejuvenates himself in London, England. A 4 picture deal with BBC has persuaded Woody Allen to direct his first films out of New York with the first film being Match Point, and now Mr. Allen brings us the movie Scoop.
An American journalist receives the scoop of a lifetime from a dead journalist and falls in love with the person she is investigating.

STORY: Scarlett Johansson plays Sandra Pransky the American journalist who encounters a ghost during an act for Sid Waterman’s (Woody Allen) magician act. The story follows the pursuit of Sandra’s investigation into the claim that Peter Lyman, played by Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman is a serial killer at large. Sandra falls in love with Peter despite the disapproval of Sid who is assisting Sandra to find the truth. Scarlett Johansson is one of the hottest talents in Hollywood, but she falls stale for me in this film. Hugh Jackman gives one of the worst performances of an English aristocrat which questions whether Great Britain should purchase Australia back from China so they can imprison Wolverine. Woody Allen plays Woody Allen if he decided to be a Magician and his paranoia and sarcastic humor saves the bad decisions in casting. The story resembles a satirical parody of a film noir film which is quite fascinating, but there is a bias in this review for my positive approval of anything Woody Allen.
STYLE: the scenes of the dead journalist riding a fishing boat with the Grim Reaper are beautifully designed and subtlety hilarious. It clearly was done on a sound stage somewhere but the elements of everyone who had recently died riding a boat brought a chuckle every time it appeared. The film runs at 96 minutes and the music seems to add dimensions to a story that wasn’t completely executed. Not too many issues with the aesthetics because they never really tried anything adventurous. Woody has always maintained a focus on story rather than style, and the writing contained all the elements of all his films.
SUMMARY: I over exaggerate the performances but Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman did play their roles respectfully. Woody Allen steals the film, which is ironic because didn’t Woody write and direct this film? This is a good story of the lengths we take to further our careers and the obstacles and decisions we make to stipple that advancement. So there are 2 more films Woody Allen will be shooting in London, and I’ll be the 27th person in line for those films, until then wait for Scoop to be released on DVD and make it a priority to place Match Point on your list.

Movie Menu Episode #15: Black Dahlia

Josh Harnett and Aaron Eckhart are former boxers who are partnered in the L.A. police force and assigned to the murder of Elizabeth Short, A K A The Black Dahlia. This sexy adaptation of a James Ellroy book combines elements of a low budget pornography and a murder mystery. So imagine if someone took the story of L.A. Confidential and applied it to Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and you have The Black Dahlia. But somewhere along the line, the story was put in a blender and served to Josh Harnett at his local juice bar. So the man of mystery: John Harnett drinks the blended story smoothie, because he canât read, and is perplexed on how he knows the script so well by heart. Somewhere in the process, Josh Harnett takes a # 2 and before he could flush it down the toilet, director Brian De Palma scoops it out of the toilet and the film is made. Cheese doodle!

Welcome to another edition of the Movie Menu: Entertainment News where we add no preservatives or additives. All natural baby! I’ve always loved how producing something natural would cost the consumer more than something chemically combined. How does one go about naming a chemical, is the process something like naming an asteroid? Who ever spots it names it, whoever smelt it probably dealt it. Damn scientist and their “sophisticated” jargon and long ass name. I bet when you unscramble the names of these chemicals that you’ll have the full name of the scientist. If I ever get the opportunity to name an asteroid or chemical I would appropriately name it Who’s Yo Bitch. I can imagine scared Eskimos screaming “Look! In the sky! Who’s Yo Bitch” or as a deadly poison, “That’s right Mr. Bond, I’ve injected you with 13cc’s of Who’s Yo Bitch (evil laugh)” or even better, a vaccine, “You’ve been cured Mr. Cartwright. Who&rsquo
